HAWKS LOSE TO HOSTS AT MELROSE

Glasgow Hawks 7 Melrose 36
Hosts Melrose took to the field to resounding cheers and their supporters didn’t have long to wait for some meaningful action. Jordan Macey, Melrose’s Australian Sevens player, beat opposite number Sean Murray to score the opening try of the tie.
Scott McCormick looked either way for an opening before deciding to take the ball on himself. He broke through the Hawks line with ease and cantered between the posts unopposed.
David Whiteford set up a chance for Jamie Murray and the Melrose captain collected cleanly to touch down under the posts. Scott Wight converted the latter two efforts as Melrose took a 19-0 lead into the interval.
Melrose continued the second half where they left off the first when John Dalziel took advantage of a mistake by Stuart Low to dive over under the posts. David Whiteford added to Hawks misery when he slid in at the near side touch line and McCormick found his way over for a second time in the other corner as Melrose continued their good work.
Grant Strang finally reversed the Melrose tide with Stephen Biggart converting, but it was too little too late for the city side.
