“Accies lose out in the East”

Forrester 27 – Glasgow Accies 14 Match Report

“Accies lose out in the East”

Injuries and unavailability of players meant that Accies’ journey to Edinburgh to play Forrester in their last league fixture of the season was always going to be tough.

With their league positions secure there was little for either team to play for other than pride. So with a vastly changed team from the previous league fixtures Accies took to the field.

Forrester opted to play the first half with the wind and the slope and with that local knowledge used the elements to pin Accies back in their own half and gain momentum. After 5 minutes Forrester got their first score following a scrum pick up and drive and their powerful centre dove over.

Forrester 7 – Accies 0

The pattern continued for most of the half with Accies mostly being hemmed in their own 22m zone except for the occasional searing break from Jamie Doig. However, with Accies not able to finish off their moves Forrester would clear their lines with a hefty kick downfield and Accies would have to start again. After 30 mins Forrester got their second try and disappointingly got a third try right on half time, a neat but speculative chip ahead from Forrester’s No.10 bounced straight back into his arms for a classic opportunists try.

Half Time: Forrester 17 – Accies 0

With the wind at their backs and playing downhill Accies response is immediate. Scrum ball is picked up and the ball fizzed down the line to Mike Hermes who simply flew down the line to open Accies try count for a spectacular score converted by Gareth Williams.

Forrester 17 – Accies 7

Getting off to such a flyer got the Accies supporters hopes up, however this Forrester team are a very competent side and struck back with a slick backline move that saw Accies run out of defenders for their fourth try.

Forrester 22 – Accies 7

With the game opening up Accies struck back through Alan Wilson dancing through from 10 metres out following a sustained heavy period of pressure from Accies again converted by Gareth Williams.

Forrester 22 – Accies 14

With the game effectively over Forrester closed the scoring with a well worked try, their dangerous backline again sliced through Accies line and the supporting No.8 collected and was over for the final try.

Final Score: Forrester 27 – Accies 14

Overall Forrester deserved to win as they took nearly all their chances. Sadly for Accies, injury, unavailability, some poor decision making and failing to take all their chances meant that the winning run ended. There are some positives for Accies as a host of the second team players have now been blooded in the firsts and now know what they have to do to hold down a regular place but Forrester fought that little bit harder and took their chances to win.

Accies season is over. Overall a disappointing season in terms of results over the year but there are real positives to be had from the development of the team over the last two months and they way they have reacted. With a few new faces next year the building blocks could be in place for a good season so long as Accies become a bit more clinical in their decision making and execution. Enjoy the summer…

Regards,

Stephen
