The Calcutta Cup will take to the skies tomorrow as it is flown from the Island of Mull sevens rugby tournament to the Hawks Dinner in Glasgow city centre. . . by seaplane.
The arduous journey of 120 miles, would have taken over four hours by ferry, road or rail. However, Scottish Rugby has teamed up with Loch Lomond Seaplanes to ensure the cup can be in attendance at both events, punctually.
The journey represents the ongoing efforts of Scottish Rugby to reach out and acknowledge the contribution of community rugby to the national game.
Head of Community Rugby, Colin Thomson, said: "Scottish Rugby recognises the role the Calcutta Cup has as an iconic trophy. The tour is to demonstrate our appreciation of the valuable role volunteers have in nurturing talent from the grassroots.
The journey on Saturday represents the commitment we have to make the trophy accessible to all clubs across Scotland."
