On Thursday the 19 June 2008, St. Clares held their first Rugby Festival along with The Glasgow Hawks and with the support of our Active Schools Coordinator. This was a new sport for St. Clares and the whole school participated in the event. We had 16 teams all named each team after a country. Grant Talbot had been in the school in the preceding weeks delivering a very successful rugby coaching programme to the children attending our after school clubs. He also coached the children in all our upper school classes during the school day. This proved to be very successful and in turn led on to our first ever rugby festival.
The children and parents who attended were very excited to have the opportunity to see the Calcutta Cup.
The event was very well publicised and sponsored by various companies. There were members of the press at the event which led to articles in the Daily Record and an appearance on the Scottish news!
We would like to thank all at St Clares especially Maureen Vaughan for all their help and support in making this a great day for all of us.
