Scottish Students R.L World Cup

Scotland Students whose squad includes former Hawk Calum Morrison now playing with West and Andy MacPhail lost 31-16 to Wales in Brisbane on Wednesday, ending any hopes of reaching the World Cup semi-finals. They now face holders New Zealand at the weekend in their final group game.
"We were confident we could do it but made too many costly mistakes in crucial areas of the pitch and at critical times in the game," admitted manager Phil Slaney from Queensland. "Also, the penalty count was very very high against us. But having heard the absolutely shocking and awful news about the bombs in London, we have put the rugby into perspective. The sprit in the camp is still good despite everything that has happened."

Whatever happens against New Zealand on Sunday afternoon (QLD time), Scotland have another game on Tuesday in the Plate Semi-Finals, and then a positional play-off on Friday night before flying home next Sunday.

Scotland Students went down to a heavy defeat against the hosts Australia in their opening game of the Student World Cup in Brisbane on Saturday.
Scotland trailed 34-0 at half-time and went on to lose 64-4, with our sole try coming from Huddersfield Underbank's Michael Murphy Jr. Scotland must lift themselves for Wednesday's win-or-bust game with Wales, who lost their group opener to New Zealand.
