From anon GHK

On a warm summer's day on the wrong side of town, GHK racked up some fine results at the Glasgow Warriors Touch Tournament with a fledgling champagne rugby side.

Early victories against Renfrew [8-0] and Cumbernauld [4-1] were followed by a harder fixture in the group stage against Glasgow Warriors.

GHKs starting 6 were led on the day by WC. Scott 202 Cameron who had been selected as able deputy to another Legend. How the young man shone.

Undaunted by their professional counterparts GHK adhered with vigour and no lack of trench commitment to a game plan of fixed line defence and quick movement in attack.

An early score from Kerr Gossman [a young man with a stronger step than his older brother] in an obvious mismatch against the Warriors prop got GHK off to a great start. GHKs second score was a well worked move from regular Stand-off Dickie who collected his own loop pass from Dave Whyte to score wide out in the corner. Confidence was evident after these scores and GHK pressed at every turn thanks to the excellent Mike Martin and resolute tracking back by John Cleveland Lahoar. A trooper who with great character was able to get over his earlier loss in the day when his Roomie Thow failed to trap.

The inimitable partnership of A Disco Forbes and G. Strain, that had been utilised effectively by Coach James Gossman throughout the day, were dispatched midway through the first half to add the necessary pace to negate the International duo of the Evans brother's potential impact. And so it was.

Final Score: GHK 2, Glasgow Warriors - 1.

A well earned and deserved victory for GHK.

An equally dramatic late win followed over a good Cartha Queens Park side but ultimately the young GHK side were knocked out of the tournament by Ayr RFC at the semi final stage. GHKs dream tie in the final against the eventual winners Glasgow Hawks was not to be.

Special thanks go to Gary Strain who wore the jersey with pride and will now be sleeping in the colours every night [more so because of the tightness of his No.8 jersey]. Thanks must also be extended to new recruits Aussie Sean, Alan Tilson and Graeme Mitchell from RGU RFC who added speed, bendiness and a deft touch respectively.

Congratulations to a fine Glasgow Hawks side as eventual winners of the tournament.
