Rugby club looks forward to life in a higher division
Published: 08 August, 2008

After their dramatic promotion to division two of the West Regional League last season, Arran Rugby Club began training again on Wednesday night after a break for the summer.

Players turned out in force at the Ormidale Park in Brodick to start planning the game structures that will lead them to success in their new league.

Coach Bert Ramage began with full contact training and reminded the players that they only have three weeks to prepare for their first game, a friendly against Glasgow Accies on August 23.

The teams first league game is away to Paisley on August 30.

Arran number 8, Mark Wetton said: I think we all thought that the first training session would be pretty easy going but Bert definitely put us through our paces.

I think it has made us all realise that if we work hard this season we can do really well in the second division.

Last season Arran won promotion on points scored difference, ending the season on 50 points, the same as Hyndland, but with a difference of 297 against 258. The Arran team scored 522 points and conceded 225 whilst Hyndland scored 464 and conceded 206. That was enough to send Arran up and leave Hyndland in the third division.

Arran Rugby Club hope that locals will support the team this season at both home and away games.
