Bulloch keen on SRU's non-exec director role

EDINBURGH EVENING NEWS REVEALS
By BILL LOTHIAN

FORMER international captain Gordon Bulloch today confirmed his hat is in the ring to serve as a non-executive director of Scottish Rugby.
The 75-times capped hooker, who retired from Tests after going on his second Lions tour in 2005, is keen to put something back from the point of view of someone still close enough to the game to be turning out regularly at club level with West.

Bulloch, 33, says: "I have talked to them although there is no decision as yet."

The Evening News revealed in June that the SRU had begun the task of seeking a replacement for Brian Kennedy who was standing down to concentrate on business interests.

Bulloch, a Glasgow businessman whose rugby career included spells with the local professional team and also Leeds in the English Premiership, added: "There are a few candidates out there but I am quite interested.

"Having played for so long I have ideas I want to contribute.

"I still want to play a few more games in looking forward to the new season. But players like to put stuff back in different ways whether it is through coaching or formulating policy. I think that should be encouraged."

When advertising a salaried position believed to amount to between one and one and a half day's work a month Scottish Rugby invited a "creative and informed contribution" to implementing policies set out in a strategic plan for the running of the oval ball game through to 2012.

An advert also says the successful candidate will have to act as a "constructive critic".

Duties also include acting as an "ambassador" and monitoring the performance of executive management. There will also be a responsibility to "connect the business and board with networks of potentially useful people and organisations."

A knowledge of rugby in Scotland from grassroots to professional level is said to be desirable and if successful Bulloch will be one of the few Board members to have played at top level along with Heriot's and Scotland flanker Jock Millican, who currently sits as a non-executive director.
