Chairman's Welcome
On behalf of Glasgow Accies Rugby I welcome the President, Committee Members, Players and Coaching staff from Hillfoots RFC to New Anniesland this afternoon. I hope that you have an enjoyable afternoon.
We believe it is the first time that Hillfoots have played at New Anniesland but not the first time that players from the Club have played here. Two stalwarts of Accies front row in the past, hooker Grant Bonner and prop Muff Scobbie were former Hillfoots players before they joined Accies in the 1980’s. The boys from Tillycoultry were disappointed to be relegated from National 1 at the end of last season. So far this season they have played Stewartry and Linlithgow with only one losing bonus point to show for their efforts.
Accies made a promising start with a bonus point win against Highland but came unstuck against a lively Greenock Wanderers last week who were 14-0 up after 5 minutes. Accies came back to make a fight of it but slack tackling and an inability to take their chances assisted in their downfall. One reason for their poor performance could likely be that 9 players from the 1st XV squad were missing for one reason or another. It is therefore with some sense of relief that they welcome back Jamie Stewart, Alan Wilson and Richard McKnight in the backs and Graeme Simpson, Michael O’Neil, and veteran prop Alan Perrie in the pack. The holiday season is nearly over and the students are returning, which will mean that the Club should have 50 to 60 players available for selection from now on..
Next Saturday we play Forrester at their Broomhouse Road Ground close to the Gyle Centre in Edinburgh. Kick Off 3pm. Spectators wishing to travel on the team bus should contact Alasdair Graham on 0141 616 4056
Accies Man of the Match Sponsor
We are pleased to announce that the man of the match sponsor for this season is
anCnoc. The recipient will be presented with a bottle of 12-year-old anCnoc Whisky after the match. We are most grateful to anCnoc for their generosity and ask you to support their product by purchasing it from the bar at a discounted price of £2.10 for a dram.
The winner two weeks ago was Mike Hermes for his try double against Highland.
Whitecraigs
The local derby against southsiders Whitecraigs is due to be played at New Anniesland on Saturday 18th October. We are anticipating a large visiting support on the day.
A pre match lunch will be available and I would ask you to consider making up a table of 6,8 or 10. Individuals will also be welcome. Please contact Alasdair Graham for details.
