GHK MATCH REPORT

GHK 50 Uddingstion 5

No sooner had the Presidential gaggle settled on the touchline with Percy perched on his trademark shooting stick than GHK were off and running. A quick break from Rory Love putting Scott Cameron over for the first of his 3 tries. Unconverted so it was 5-0 after only 2 minutes.
GHK pack were looking strong from the start and try number 2 came along in 11 minutes after a nice miss move in the centre let Davy Whyte glide in close to the posts. A tanned Chris - Eat Your Heart Out Tommy Sheridan - Breckenridge duly converted and it was now 12-0.
Even at this early stage GHK were pretty much in control but for the next 15 minutes or so serious white line fever took over and several good chances were squandered.
After some sterling sniping and tackling well above his weight, scrum half Mike Aird - a real prospect - started a fine handling move involving forwards and backs and the ball got to Rory Love who showed a clean pair of heels as he streaked over to make it 17-0 at 26 minutes.
Disco’s sidestep was the highlight of the next few minutes but then we took our foot of the gas for a bit and, after our strong and dominant start, Uddingston capitalised on some sloppy play and scored an unconverted try.
GHK took control again but too often the simple option was ignored and the half ended with no further scores.

Your scribe missed the start of the second half due to call of nature and hence the opening score from Darcy straight from the kick off. I did manage to see Tommy Sheridan miss the conversion. So 22-5 and bonus point secured.
The solid and reliable Stu Hunter started a good attack from inside our half and this was finished off by Scott Cameron showing good pace. Chris duly converted to make it 29-5.
By now the result was in the bag but Scott Cameron managed to get his hat trick after a good kick and chase from Kenny Fraser. Relief swept through the ranks as the red dress was now a certainty for Whippy. Brokenfridge converted to make it 36-5.
From the restart we were back on the attack with an inspired “Toony Flick” from Chris B opening up the defence - unfortunately our glorious leader just could not manage to gather the next pass from his toes and the opportunity was lost.
It wasn’t long till the next attack brought justified reward: a lovely piece of interplay (or was it foreplay?) between Chris B, Danny the Hoff and Davy Whyte ended in Davy going over for his second try, converted to make it 43-5.
Rory Love soon got in on the act again screaming down the wing for his second and the game’s final flourish. Not sure why he was screaming but there you go.
Last few minutes got very messy and discipline was in short supply. Must be careful of this as the last thing we need is a red card.

All in all a very creditable and entertaining performance.

Final score 50-5.
