THE HAMILTON ADVERTISER REPORTS

Villagers are given a rude reminder of how difficult life is going to be in higher divisions

UDDINGSTON Rugby Club were given a reminder that life will be tough in the Scottish Hydro Electric West League Division One, as GHK ran out convincing 50-5 winners at Bothwell Castle Policies.

The Glaswegians got off to a perfect start when Scott Cameron crossed for the first of his three tries after just two minutes.

GHK stretched their lead to 12-0 after 11 minutes when Davy Whyte took advantage of hesitant defending to crash over, with Chris Brekenridge adding the conversion.

Uddingston were defending strongly, but GHK’s running was too much for them to handle.

And the visitors grabbed their third try after 26 minutes through Rory Love, although Breckenridge’s conversion was wide.

With the first half drawing to a close Uddingston grabbed a score back.

A strong drive by the forwards was rewarded with a scrum 10 metres from the line, providing the perfect platform for number eight Donald Haldane to pick from the base and power his way over, taking two tacklers with him.

However, Uddingston’s hopes for the second half lasted less than 60 seconds.

Hugh Parker crossed for GHK’s bonus point-winning try, and an already commanding 22-5 lead.

Scott Cameron added a further two tries, both converted by Breckenridge for a 36-5 lead.

Davy Whyte and Rory Love added their second tries before the close of play, with Breckenridge adding another conversion for the final 50-5 score.
