Match Day Notes for this coming weekend
Good afternoon folks and welcome to Old Anniesland for this Premier 1 game v Stirling County. We are hoping that we can build on our first victory of the season last week against Currie - a hard fought one-point victory. Well done to all the players who finally got their rewards for all the hard work they are putting in on the training field and in the gym.
We must now show some consistency and get another couple of victories under our belt in the upcoming two home matches, today v Stirling and next week v Melrose - with hard work, two very winnable games.
I was looking back over the last few games and referees report that I send into the SRU and my personal opinion is that the breakdown/contact is not being refereed consistently which is making it pretty frustrating for players, coaches and spectators alike. I am sure the refs themselves are getting frustrated with some of the comments being directed at them.
This will only improve if we have constant dialogue with the refs and their coaches and tomorrow at Murrayfield there is a meeting to which all P1, P2 & P3 coaches have been invited (unfortunately at the time of going to print only three clubs have confirmed they are going).
If we want to make things better and get the game of rugby moving forward it is very important that these opportunities are taken to interact with the match officials and find out not only what they are doing but what they are expecting from the clubs and more importantly the players. As you would expect, I will be there (any opportunity of talking to a ref) and only hope by the time tomorrow comes there will be a number of other Premier coaches there as well.
