Anniesland Clean Sweep at Lenzie P7 Tournament
Fantastic day at the Lenzie Tournament on Sunday 5th October. Following a 6-0 demolition of Hamilton and a default win over Paisley (who failed to show up) in the group stages, GHK P7 went on to face a strong physical side in East Kilbride. However, despite their best efforts, GHK came out on top with a 3-1 win. And so to the Final...against Allan Glens...
Playing up the hill, we went a try down in the first five minutes against a very big physical side. Neither side was taking prisoners and the contacts were full-on, 100%commitmentnt from both sides. Following good combination of forwards and backs, GHK gradually exerted more and more pressure to be rewarded by a try from the back line.
Half time - 1-1
In the second half, with the slope now in GHK's favour, Allan Glens never really threatened the GHK line as the forwards repeatedly retained possession with great rucking and the backs made good use of the ball out wide. The controlled play eventually led to a GHK try with five minutes left, 2-1.
The last five minutes was full of thunder, with GHK contesting every bit of possession aggressively which prevented worthy opponents Allan Glens making any progress. The final whistle went to hugh cheers all round as GHK P7's won the Lenzie Tournament Cup.
Final Score - GHK 2 Allan Glens 1
As if that wasn't enough, GHK also lent two players to our colleagues at Glasgow Accies who were also at the tournament. A score from one the boys helped Glasgow Accies reach the Final of the Bowl Tournament, which Glasgow Accies Won. So a clean sweep for Anniesland!
Well done to all the boys, and thank you to all parents who came to support. The Cup will now do the rounds with each boy for two weeks, before taking pride of place in the clubhouse trophy cabinet!
