Hawick kick-started their campaign by edging out Glasgow Hawks 23-16 in a tense battle at Mansfield Park.

Tries by Graham Hogg, Colin Murray, Steve Anderson and David Lowrie ensured the bonus point for the home side, with Ally Weir taking the marksmanship plaudits.

The Hawks tries came from Sean Murray and Paddy Bower, with Mike Adamson and Ian Noble sharing the kicking points.
