SCOTS LIFT SHIELD AT SINGAPORE SEVENS

Scotland 19 - Cottesloe 7
The Scotland 7s development squad, the Scottish Thistles, finished fifth at the SCC International Rugby Sevens today, lifting the Plate.

The Scots scored 253 points in seven games over two days of competition, conceding only 43.

After the final, coach Stephen Gemmell said: We've come here and the players have dealt well with the short turnaround between games and the conditions, especially the heat. Theyve also had a valuable experience to play rugby at this level before the IRB Sevens World Series begins in Dubai, also the venue for the Rugby World Cup Sevens in March.

"Although wed all have preferred to be in the Cup competition, winning becomes a habit and Im delighted we were able to win the Plate."

The Thistles scored first through captain Scott Forrest, Rory Hutton converting, to give the Scots a 7-0 lead at half-time.

Hutton then crossed for a try of his own before Roddy Grant crossed the line. Graham Hogg added the extra two points.

Cottesloe grabbed a late converted try but the Thistles had done enough to seal the 19-7 victory.
