Good afternoon folks and welcome to Old Anniesland for this Scottish Hydro Electric Premier Division 1 game versus Ayr and a warm welcome to Kenny Murray and his troops for what I hope is an enthralling battle this afternoon.
Ayr are a having a good season which is great for them and rugby in general in the West but we hope today to put a big dent in their title aspirations – for a little while at least.
Also today is a slightly less important game – Scotland v New Zealand – which I will be shooting off to right after this game to do commentary for BBC Radio Scotland. This is a really difficult start to Scotland’s autumn international sequence, with South Africa and Canada coming up in the next two weeks.
The importance of these games cannot be underestimated as on 1st December the draw will be made for the 2011 World Cup and if Scotland do not beat either New Zealand or South Africa we will remain at least 9th seeds and that means we will end up in a so call “group of death” where we will meet two major nations which then makes our qualification for the quarter finals very difficult. So fingers crossed for a couple of good displays as well as a wee bit of luck to turn one of these nations over!!!
