Whitewash pushes Highland into danger zone
Published: 25 November, 2008
HIGHLAND'S relegation fears returned after Glasgow Accies condemned them to a third consecutive defeat in National League Division Two.
The Greens are now only eight points clear of bottom side Hillfoots following their 21-0 defeat to Accies at Canal Park on Saturday.
With a trip to league leaders Whitecraigs up next, Highland's position does not look likely to improve any time soon.
After sitting idle last weekend, Highland were put through their paces in a midweek friendly against the Black Watch as coach Hugh MacKintosh attempted to give his players some much-needed match practice before what was a crucial game.
In the early stages of Saturday's match, it did appear that the run-out had been beneficial to the Greens, but a mistake by the home side soon allowed Glasgow to gain the upper hand A mix-up in their own half resulted in Highland losing possession, which was kicked towards the post by an Accies player who went on to score a converted try.
It was harsh on Highland to be trailing 7-0, although that deficit could have been reduced had Craig Irvine kicked at least one of the four penalties he had in the closing stages of the first half.h

The Greens began the second half full of purpose, but were guilty of making too many mistakes when in good possession and it was to prove costly. Some poor tackling by the hosts allowed Accies in for a second converted try and as Highland began to run out of ideas, the visitors proceeded to go over again to make it 21-0 with 20 minutes left.
Despite Glasgow losing a man to the sin-bin, Highland could not even muster a point as they succumbed to a disappointing defeat that will offer for positives ahead of the trip to Whitecraigs.
