David Lloyd will be sponsoring the world's oldest inter district match this season
This fixture was first organised by Glasgow Accies in 1872 and it was played at Burnbank on Gt Western Rd--just before Rangers F,C took over the ground
The fixture was an immediate success such that Glasgow Accies moved the 1888 fixture to Hampden Park(the second Hampden Park that later became Cathkin Park)because of the increased attendances

Al Kellock & Jim Hamilton get in the ring with Donny Doyle from David Lloyd to launch the David Lloyd 1872 Cup - the first clash is on Boxing Day.Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby today announce that David Lloyd is the new title sponsor of the 1872 Cup – the world’s oldest inter-city rugby match.
As a result of the sponsorship, the flagship fixtures in the Scottish professional rugby calendar will now be named the David Lloyd 1872 Cup.
Glasgow Warriors Chief Executive, Ian Riddoch, said: “I’m delighted to welcome David Lloyd as title sponsor of the 1872 Cup.
”David Lloyd has already proven to us that they are a very proactive sponsor and I look forward to working with them in the season ahead
