Congratulations to Jim

Congratulations to Jim from all at GHK and Hawks on his mighty effort- as competitive as always Jim!

Always one for a challenge Jim Taylor a C5/C6 Tetraplegic confined to a wheelchair after breaking his neck in a rugby accident 30 years ago , while playing for Kelvinside Academicals, last night at Braehead completed the task of pushing a tonne of granite over a mile of ice . This was all in aid of The Hearts and Heroes Challenge, run by the Sportsman's Charity, with Poppyscotland and Scotland's rugby charity for disabled players, Hearts & Balls. Using a page on www.justgiving.com/granitejimtaylor Jim has raised a mighty total approaching £7,000 with no doubt more to come.

Cheered on by friends and fellow curlers Jim comfortably fired up 128 stones to easily surpass the tonne of granite and mile of ice required.

With Taylor’s Totties, Liz, Susan, Irene, Jane and Anne setting up stones, and big John Beattie recording the proceedings for his radio programme, Jim consistently fired all but a few stones into the rings – no easy task – just try it! What a guy.

MANY , MANY THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.

My ‘team’ were fantastic and I am indebted to them and indeed the fun loving vociferous support.

For the record 128 stones = 2.51 tonnes. Completed mile by extra 300 and odd feet. 8 full ends – last 6 stones for show not dough!
Time to complete 1 hour 15 minutes.

Jim
