ACCIES UPDATE FROM ALLY G

He old year ended on a high note with six consecutive wins including away league wins against Highland and Hillfoots and two home league wins against Greenock Wanderers and Forrester, both with four try bonus points. These were followed by a cup win over Strathendrick and a 29-19 win on Boxing Day in the annual match against a strong Accies Exiles XV. Hopefully we can keep this run of good form into the new year.
The next game is this Saturday 10th January and it is a real test. Selkirk from the 1st Division of the Premier League are the visitors to New Anniesland in the 4th round of the SHE Cup.
It is not often that the XV gets a chance to test themselves against such illustrious opponents and if the SRU get their way the Premier Division Clubs will have their own cup competition and sides like Accies will have to play in a National Leagues competition. It will be the last time that the smaller clubs will get their day in the sun. A massive result for Accies on Saturday could have an influence on that decision.
The players are up for the game but they need a noisy support on the touchline to cheer them on. We are relying on your support. The losing team will drop down to the Shield Competition.
The game kicks off at 1-30pm and there will be soup and sandwiches available in the Clubhouse from 12-30 at a cost of £2-50. You can just turn up but it would help the caterers if you would let me know if you wish to join us pre-match. (email or call 0141 616 4056).
Please remember that as it is a cup tie and we have to share the gate with our opponents that there will be a £5 entry fee. Children no charge
After the cup tie it is back to league business for four weeks:
17th January Stewartry Away (Space available on the team bus if you wish to travel)
24th January Linlithgow Home
31st January Hawick YM Home
7th February Whitecraigs Away
We lost to the last three in the early part of the season but we are a much better side now.
We may not get promotion but we will certainly influence who does.
Current League Situation
Played Points
Whitecraigs 15 64
Linlithgow 14 55
Hawick YM 14 54
Glasgow Accies 15 47

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Kind regards

Alasdair Graham
Secretary
Glasgow Accies Rugby
