Hawks beat Hawick 30-5 in a relegation dog fight at Old Anniesland
SCOTLAND ON SUNDAY REPORTS
Glasgow Hawks 30 - 5 Hawick
PETER Wright's young Hawks side came of age in this intense and bruising encounter between the third and second bottom sides. Hawick's defeat could well send them tumbling into Premier 2 for the first time in their history.
Hawick played into the fierce wind in the first half and stunned Hawks with a Michael Robertson try after only six minutes, but it was their only score.
Hawks built a 15-point half-time lead, with tries from Stevie Gordon and Alan Kelly. Mike Rainey converted both and added a couple of penalties.
After the break Hawks totally dominated possession, picking and driving time and time again. It wasn't pretty, but it was hugely effective, and Hawick simply had no answer. Rainey blasted over a penalty and in stoppage time a length of the field breakout led to a scrum-five, from which Nick Cox barrelled over, Rainey adding the kick.
