WELCOME
by KENNY BAILLIE
(These may be the views of Glasgow Hawks).
Good afternoon and welcome to Old Anniesland for the last home league
match of the season. Today’s game against Heriot’s is another huge
game for the Club and victory will almost secure our status in SHE
Premiership Division 1. By 5:00 PM this afternoon we will know what
we need to do against the new Scottish Champions, Ayr, next Saturday at Millbrae. I’m
sure we will all be keeping a close eye on results from Raeburn Place, Mansfield Park and
Myreside.
Today’s visitors have had a good season and are looking to add another Scottish Cup to their list
of honours. Heriot’s always prove to be tough opposition and we are expecting the same today.
Welcome to all the Heriot’s players (the 2nd XV match is being played at New Anniesland, KO
1:30 PM), President Peter Brown and all the supporters from Goldenacre.
Club News
Hawks Mini Rugby – Our mini rugby section continues to run two sessions every week – 10:00-
11:00 AM on Saturday mornings at Donald Dewar Leisure Centre and 3:30-4:30 PM on Thursday
afternoons at Netherton Community Centre. The mini rugby will run until mid-June with an
average of 35-40 boys and girls participating each week and we plan to hold a tournament for
them before the end of the school year.
Glasgow Hawks Development Trip – 40 players (aged 15-21), six coaches and 2 physios head out
to Perpignan on April 5 for 12 days intensive training. This is a key programme for Hawks as we
aim to build on the success of this season’s Junior Rugby Under 15s while allowing many of the
players in our Development XV the opportunity to work on strength and conditioning and
individual skills. Hopefully we will see the benefit of this next season and beyond.
Player of the Year Dinner Dance – Tickets are selling VERY fast so if you are interested in
coming, please contact Chris Breckenridge at [email protected] or on 07976 564
662.
Summer Camp – This will once again run during the first week of August from 3rd to 7th and all
boys and girls aged 8 – 16 are welcome to attend. Information will soon appear on the website,
but in meantime, if you are interested in booking a place for your son or daughter, please
contact Grant Talbot at [email protected] or on 07825 181 041.
And finally…
Past and present Glasgow Hawks players and coaches are well represented in this weekend’s

On Friday night, Andy White (10), Nick Campbell (4) and Peter Jericevich (20) have all been
selected to play for Scotland under-20 against England in what could be an RBS 6 Nations
decider at the Sixways Stadium in Worcester. Hawks Director of Rugby, Peter Wright is the
forwards coach and everyone at Hawks wishes them well. The game is LIVE ON SKYSPORTS 3
AND SKYSPORTS 3 HD.
The main event at Twickenham on Saturday sees Hawks players Graeme Morrison and Max
Evans line up in the centre while Euan Murray, fast becoming the best tight-head in the UK,
taking his place once again in the front row. Here’s hoping all three can help Scotland put one
over Martin Johnson’s team and give Steve Borthwick something else to moan about!
