Minis update

Minis warming up to host massive charity tournament
Apr 10 2009 by Kaiya Marjoribanks, Stirling Observer Friday
STRATHENDRICK RFC minis host their third charity festival on April 26.
Around 400 children from teams from Allan Glens, GHA, Glasgow Accies, GHK, Lenzie, West of Scotland and Strathendrick will come together in Scotland’s largest minis charity rugby festival.
It will raise money for Strathcarron Hospice, Robin House in Balloch and the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. Last year’s event raised £8250.
Minis organiser Iain Somerville said: “Last year we exceeded all our expectations in terms of funds raised, rugby played and children attending.
“Many local organisations and companies are sponsoring the tournament, either in kind or through providing food or raffle prizes.
“Strathendrick has a thriving minis section with some 65-70 children from P3-7 (and some even younger) playing on a regular basis throughout the season with the club.
“Each club level will play each of the opponents and the emphasis is on fun and participation so every playing child will receive a memento and there will also be a trophy for the club which scores the most tries and the most sporting club.”
Two pro players from Glasgow Warriors will be at the event and there will be a burger and snack bar and a raffle.
Kick-off is at 1pm and the tournament is expected to finish around 4.15pm.
