Glasgow Warriors’ head coach, Hugh Campbell, believes the team’s first pre-season friendly at Hughenden on Saturday against Rotherham Titans will be an excellent test for his side.
Following successful pre-season training, the Warriors are ready for the forthcoming season, according to Campbell. He said: “I am pleased with the squad and they are in great shape. We are looking forward to some excellent rugby being played in both Celtic League and Heineken Cup matches.
“I see the outing against Rotherham on Saturday as a very good test for us, especially at this time in the season and I’m sure it will be a very useful exercise.”
Scrum-half Sam Pinder is missing from Saturday’s line-up having sustained a dead leg in the training match at Ayr on Monday. However, Scotland cap Graeme Beveridge has recovered from minor knee surgery over the summer and makes a timely return.
Two of Beveridge’s international colleagues, prop Euan Murray and openside flanker Donnie Macfadyen, are not yet ready to resume but Campbell hopes they will be figuring by the time the Celtic League begins in September
The squad had a successful training match with Ayr, where the Warriors’ new signings, including wing Mike Roberts recruited from Wasps, were involved.
Commenting on the match Campbell said: “It was a very useful outing and we learned some good lessons, ready to put into practice for Saturday’s match.”
Admission to the game is FREE.
