A fitting tribute to a great old player

Yesterday a memorial service was held in the Buchanan Parish Church to celebrate the life of Russell Bruce Glasgow Accies-the Army and Scotland who died recently aged 90
Russell had played in that famous 27-0(39-0 by todays system?) win over England in April 1946
He also led the British Army team which contained both "union" and "league" players at a time when if you defected from union to league you were suspended sine die and were often banned from entering your own clubhouse

From the order of service

But it isn't just the winning
Nor the scoring nor the cheers
It's the friendship and the memories
That last you through the years

It's the camaraderie
That's born of valour not of fame
It's the sheer exhilaration
When you play the running game
