Friendly match played at Hughenden on Saturday, 20th
Kevin Tkachuk went over for one of Glasgow's seven tries Glasgow Warriors finally won this pre-season friendly 55-7, but they were made to work hard against a stuffy Rotherham side who never stopped trying.
However, the victory came at a cost as Glasgow flanker Steve Swindall was forced to leave the field with a very nasty injury to one of his fingers. Steve had put in an impressive performance until that point and it's clear that he's put in a power of work over the summer in his physical development. Hopefully, he'll have a very speedy recovery and be back in action soon.
As with the game against Ayr last Monday, the match was played in four 20-minute quarters, which does give the coaches a chance to switch formations and try variations, but does give the play an unreal feel. It's reported that Rotherham wished to play the game over the normal two 40-minute halves, and I wouldn't disagree with that.
Glasgow's tries came from Kevin Tkachuk, Rory Lamont, Andy Henderson (2), Andy Craig, Graeme Beveridge and Fergus Thomson. Dan Parks and Calvin Howarth weighed in with the rest of the points with the boot.
Scotland Under-21 skipper Neil Cochrane, who made the move south during the summer, went over for the Titans' try. Mike Whitehead added the conversion to give the very good Rotherham support something to cheer about. It's just unfortunate, and embarrassing, that Glasgow fans couldn't offer the Rotherham fans a refreshment before their long trip home
