2nd XV/Reserve Team Competition
Further to work undertaken by the Scottish Rugby Council s sub group on the season structure it has been agreed that, working with the existing volunteers involved in the running of the 2nd XV Leagues, the week to week operation and management of the 2nd XV leagues will now come under the auspices of Scottish Rugby and the Championship Committee structure.
These Leagues will now be called the Scottish Rugby Reserve team leagues and will be open to any team(s) of member club below the level of Senior 1st XV. In order to minimise the disruption caused by any potential restructure it has been decided to continue the leagues in their current structure of 2 national leagues with the rest being divided into regional leagues as best fits the needs of the clubs and each region for season 2009 - 2010. This format will change to 1 national league and the rest regional at the start of season 2010 2011 as per the Report made by the Council Sub Group on the season.
Rules and regulations for the reserve team leagues are currently being drafted and will be circulated in due course once approved by the Championship Committee.
In order for us to progress with fixtures I would appreciate if you could confirm to Barry Sinclair SRU Council rep and 2nd XV committee member ([email protected]) of any new team that you wish to enter into the reserve team league structure during season 2009 2010 by Friday the 17th July, this will allow us to confirm leagues, fixtures, rules and regulations to clubs by the end of July.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the numerous volunteers who have run the 2nd XV leagues over the years and I look forward to working with them in the future under the auspices of the Scottish Rugby Union and the Championship Committee
Yours sincerely
