Good morning gentlemen,
At the height of this glorious summer it seems ridiculous to be writing about rugby but the sad fact is that the new season is only a few weeks away. In view of this please find attached the fixture list for season 2009-2010.
As you will note the first league game is at New Anniesland on Saturday 29th August against newly promoted Lasswade. Ideally we would like a large support that day to get the season off to a good start.
Before that we have an important match against old rivals GHK for the David Gilmore trophy. This takes place on the school ground at New Anniesland on Friday evening 14th August at 6-30pm.
The team news is encouraging. We seem to have everyone back from last year and Jamie Doig, our Captain, has made a good recovery from the injury that kept him out for the whole of last year.
David Calder, son of Finlay, has returned to the fold as has Scott Thorburn. There are other new recruits including a French back row forward who looks highly promising.
Pre-season training has been well attended with a core of players carrying out a weight training programme throughout the summer. As a result the squad looks to be bulked up and fit for such an early stage in the season.
Good progress was made last year with a young squad. The players are now focussed on gaining promotion. Please give them your support this year.
Enjoy the remainder of your summer and we look forward to seeing you again when the season starts.
Kind regards
Alasdair Graham
secretary
