The long journey home

Fun was had by all those who made the trip back up from Preston Grasshoppers RFC on Saturday night.

After presenting Steven Begley with a pair of £7.00 grey pin-stripe half-mast trousers as a reprimand for not wearing official after-match gear, the obligatory GHRFC singing competition was held, this time on the M6/M74 corridor linking England and Scotland and it was fitting that the title was fought out between vocal giants from either side of the border. After a lengthy and somewhat painful first round eliminator, 7 finalists were chosen for the nail-biting sing off. In no particular order they were:

- Greg ‘Jobby’ Francis

- Steven ‘Put Your Six Pack Away’ Gordon

- Richard ‘We Still Love You’ Maxton

- The Talented Michael Adamson

- Steven ‘Shut it, Ya Fud’ Duffy

- Nick ‘Massive Unit’ Cox9 (just wait to he sings Swing Low Sweet Chariot)

- Douglas ‘What did you say there Dougie’ Monaghan

At the end, it all came down to the dulcet tones of Massive Unit and Jobby, but as always there has to one winner. Starting this season where he finished last season was none other than Greg ‘Jobby’ Francis with his stunning rendition of ‘Maria’. It would be fair to say that a pin drop could be heard in anticipation of his much awaited winners performance. Well maybe not. The sound of the pish from the urinal splashing onto the toilet floor drowned out the pin dropping, but the crowd were hushed. The residents of Crow Road have never heard the likes before as Franco led us home on a high.

After a 34-18 victory over Preston Grasshoppers, a good day was had by one and all.
