Jo and PJ turns out for Gunners

Young prop Jo Stafford who joined Hawks last season from Hillhead/Jordonhill turned out for Edinburgh last night along with Peter Jerevich in a pre season match against Watsonians

Edinburgh chalked up seven tries during a humid night’s work at Myreside against a physical Watsonians side with David Blair contributing 19 points in a 49-7 win.
In a practice session consisting of three 20-minute sessions, Edinburgh employed an exciting off-loading brand of rugby which led to numerous breaks and try-scoring opportunities. Our next visit to Myreside promises to be equally entertaining when we face English aristocrats, Harlequins on Saturday 22 August, kick off 3pm. First over the line was Watson’s old boy Andrew Turnbull, who found himself in space out wide and finished off with precision.
That effort was followed by a score from mobile lock Craig Hamilton, who produced an eye-catching display with expert ball-carrying throughout.
After the first period, Steve Turnbull was taken off as a precautionary measure after his first real work-out in almost a year and Edinburgh then extended their lead with Fraser McKenzie powering over from close range.
Selkirk’s Lee Jones, on as a replacement, then got on the scoresheet with virtually his first touch of the game; finishing off a fine flowing move by dotting down in the corner.
‘Sonians reduced the deficit slightly when lock Mark Rennie punished some indecision in the Edinburgh defence by lunging over the whitewash.
But that was a rare blip in an otherwise immaculate defensive display from the men in Black and Red and Turnbull soon added his second try of the night after a smart off-load from young No8 Jason Hill.
Blair then scored a try after an unstoppable Edinburgh attacking move before former Scotland under-20 internationalist Jones scored his second of the night and impressed with his performance on the wing.
Stand-in captain Andrew Easson also looked sharp, lively and powerful in midfield while all the Academy players produced assured displays.
