Player allocation

Glasgow Warriors will be linking players to BT Premier Division 1 clubs for playing purposes as part of the new protocol agreed between the pro-teams and the top end of the community game.
Warriors' players will also be available to assist clubs in an ambassadorial/coaching role in ALL other areas of the community game and arrangements for that should be made through the Warriors' team management.

Four BT Premier One clubs are linked to the Warriors. All of these clubs already have Warrior' apprentice or part-time players who are NOT part of the allocation process.

The players have been allocated following meetings between the clubs and Warriors. The process has been done on two counts
• Players returning to the club from which they joined the pro-ranks
• Players allocated on a positional basis

The players are:

Aberdeen GSFP – John Beattie, Ben Prescott, Andrew Wilson and props and midfield backs in the shape of Scott Barrow, Andy Craig, Lee Harrison and Kevin Tkachuk

Ayr – wings, scrum-halves and back row in the shape of Graeme Beveridge, Donnie Macfadyen, Eddie McLaughlin, Jon Petrie, Sam Pinder and Mike Roberts

Glasgow Hawks – Andrew Henderson, Rory Lamont, Graeme Morrison, Euan Murray, Colin Shaw, Steve Swindall and Fergus Thomson and hooker, back-row and full-back in the shape of Paul Dearlove, Scott Lawson and Graydon Staniforth

Stirling County – locks and stand-offs in the shape of Tim Barker, Craig Hamilton, Gregor Hayter, Calvin Howarth, Dan Parks and Dan Turner.

Under the protocol a maximum of four professional players can play in any one team but provided their opponents have at least two players ie that there would be a maximum difference of two pro players allocated between teams competing against each other.

This weekend Glasgow Warriors are not releasing any players to clubs as they have their final preparation game for the Celtic League, away against Newcastle Falcons on Saturday (kick off 5.30pm).

Glasgow Warriors apprentices are John Barclay (Stirling County), Stuart Corsar (Aberdeen GSFP), James Eddie (Ayr), Scott Forrest and Iain Kennedy (both Glasgow Hawks).

PROTOCOL ARRANGEMENTS FOR SEASON 2005-06

1. Everyone to strive to build stronger links between professional teams and Premier One clubs

2. For playing purposes, professional players will be allocated to Premier One clubs only. However, all professional players will be available for ambassadorial/coaching purposes to ALL clubs. Arrangements on an individual basis should be made through the professional team management.

3. For allocation of players the Border Reivers will allocate to Hawick, Melrose and Biggar. Glasgow Warriors with Aberdeen GSFP, Ayr, Stirling County and Glasgow Hawks. Edinburgh Gunners with Heriot's, Stewart's Melville FP, Watsonians, Currie and Boroughmuir

4. Flexible allocations will be in place with more emphasis on club of origin (if suitable) and then positional requirements within a club

5. Allocation of players to be done jointly between professional coaches and appropriate club representatives

6. Once a professional player has played for a club, that will make him registered to that club for the remainder of the season

7. There will be a maximum of a difference of two professional players allocated to clubs at any one time with a maximum of four in any one team

8. Apprentice contracted players will play for clubs, unless they are required by a professional team, at the discretion of the Academy coaches and the professional team coaches

9. Apprentice contracted players will not be part of the allocation process

10. A list of all apprentice players to be made available pre season and where possible they will be allocated to Premier One clubs

11. The arrangements agreed for 2005-06 replace previous arrangements

12. Good communications will be required from everyone involved

13. Should any problems arise regarding the protocol arrangements for 2005-06, a panel made up of representatives from the SRU, professional teams and Premier One will make a ruling

14. On the occasion that a professional team requires the services of a club player, the earliest possible communication should be made with the club. Where possible, the professional team will limit the request to two players from any one club – if there is a requirement for additional player(s) this would be through mutual agreement. With regard to injury, the club player will be covered by the professional team insurance while attached to that team.

15. All Premier One clubs and professional teams to sign a joint participation agreement of the above arrangements
