Selkirk 20 - 52 Glasgow Hawks: Selkirk easy prey for Hawks

GLASGOW Hawks again revealed their championship credentials by running in eight tries to overwhelm Selkirk at Philiphaugh with an awesome display of forward power.
In a one-sided forward contest, Selkirk managed to stabilise their scrum but the lack of line-out ball for the Philiphaugh men, throughout, meant the home backs were, for the most part, deployed as defenders.
Hawks' forward pack dominated, driving the Selkirk scrum backwards and tearing holes in the Philiphaugh defence with clever back-row play.
Behind the scrum, teenage stand-off Duncan Weir, aside from scoring 17 points, looked composed throughout and contributed hugely with delicate distribution and long kicks from hand that drove Selkirk back to their own line.
The result was never in doubt after Hawks used their forward power to create tries for Gary Strain and Joe Stafford on either side of a Craig Gossman touchdown. Two tries from Grant Strang completed a devastating first half from the Anniesland team.
Selkirk's only first-half points were a penalty goal from David Cassidy, but a Scott Hendrie try after the break revived home spirits. Not for long though, as under-20 cap Peter Jericevich carved out two tries and then Weir finished skilful approach work by Hawks.
Selkirk, with a second-half try by prop Murray, took encouragement with the final points of the game, a try by Lee Jones, but there was no doubt that Fortress Philiphaugh had been savagely plundered.
