Glasgow Hawks RFC vs West of Scotland FC – Friday, September 18, 2009 – Old Anniesland
Welcome
A warm welcome to Old Anniesland for another big derby match against West. Moving the corresponding fixture last season to a Friday night proved to be popular with supporters of both clubs, so it was an easy decision to bring Friday night rugby back to OA.
Welcome to West President, Gordon Cairns, and all the West players and supporters for what I am sure will be another exciting derby between two local rivals.
Please also note that the 2nd XV fixture between Hawks and West will be played tomorrow (Saturday 19th) at New Anniesland, KO 3:00 PM. I am sure that both sets of players would be delighted if a big crowd gave them their support.
The Oxygen of Publicity
Both clubs are fortunate that BBC Radio Scotland have once again agreed to broadcast the game live on 810 MW. This gives both Hawks and West, and indeed the Premier league, much needed publicity. At a time when Scottish professional rugby is once again back on terrestrial television, it is great that traditional club rugby also has a place in the broadcast media’s schedule.
Also covering tonight’s match is Scottish Rugby Television (SRTV). Highlights of the game can be viewed at www.scottishrugbytv.com and is a great way of seeing your team in action. Many thanks to the SRTV team for covering tonight’s match.
