On Sunday 11 October I will be joining 44,999 others in tackling the Chicago Marathon 2009. I hope the Windy City will not be too windy that day.
Deep down this may have been partly provoked by the onset of midlife crisis but my main motivation in undertaking this challenge is to support the fantastic work of Action Medical Research, one of the UK's most forward thinking charities. AMR believes that diseases and disabilities can be beaten and through medical research aims to create a healthier future. AMR has, over many years, sought answers to serious illnesses ranging through the phases of life from antenatal issues to those afflicting the elderly, selecting the best research projects in areas where they are most likely to find cures or treatments.
You can see more about the ground-breaking work of AMR, and some of the projects on which it is now focussed, by visiting its website www.action.org.uk
I hope that by competing in the Chicago Marathon I can make a significant contribution to AMR's work. I quite understand that we all receive many requests for charitable donations but I would greatly appreciate if you felt able to support my fundraising efforts on this occasion.
Attached is a link to my fundraising page www.action.org.uk/sponsor/kshand through which, should you wish, you can contribute online. If it would be more convenient I would be equally delighted to receive any contributions at the office (Maclay Murray & Spens, 151 St. Vincent Street, Glasgow, G2 5NJ).
Many, many thanks for your support which would be greatly appreciated by me and AMR and provide me with much-needed encouragement during the remaining weeks of my training schedule…I shall now return to the treadmill!
Kind regards
Kenneth
