Ayr 32 - 25 Glasgow Hawks

ROSS Curle was Ayr's two-try hero as the champions snuffed out the brave challenge of Hawks at Millbrae.
The hosts – and Curle in particular – couldn't have wished for a better start as the young centre burst through under the crossbar to give Frazier Climo a formality of a conversion.

The home side maintained the early pressure before Duncan Weir eased the Hawks' jitters with a penalty. But Ayr were soon back on the offensive to stretch their advantage thanks to an opportunist try from Grant Anderson.

Climo and Weir then traded a spate of penalties handed down by an over-fussy referee who did not appear to be on a wavelength with the players as he handed out four yellow cards.

Ayr finished the half as they had begun, as the elusive Curle dashed in to complete his double in the wake of a brilliant steal by Damian Kelly. Climo added the extras before swapping further kicks with Weir.

Climo goaled his own bonus-point try, while Sean Murray went over for Hawks, for whom Weir booted the rest to salvage a point.
