MAX Evans emerged as a double winner in the wake of his five months on the sidelines.
Not only did he help Hawks snuff out the late challenge of a gritty Muir outfit, he proved he is ready to make a big-stage comeback for the Warriors.
His pro-team return may be too late to save their Euro campaign, but he could play a major part in their quest to earn a place in the Magners League play-offs.
Evans – undergoing a workout to test his damaged knee – survived the whole 80 minutes, looking particularly strong in defence. And he is likely to figure in Glasgow's home tussle with Connacht at Firhill on Friday.
Skipper Nick Cox barged in for the opening Hawks try, which was converted by stand-off Duncan Weir. Weir added a penalty which sparked 'Muir into attacking action at the other end, Malcolm Clapperton scoring.
Elgan O'Donnell added the extras and a penalty, only to see Hawks raise the pace after the restart, Kerr Gossman bursting through for their second effort.
Weir then struck a penalty to open up a useful eight-point gap going into the final stages.
But Ed Mills clawed back a score for Muir, O'Donnell converting to set up a dramatic finale. However, another penalty by Weir put an end to the rally.
