Last night at Old Anniesland, Glasgow Hawks hosted an event to promote Ian McGeechan's new autobiography, Lion Man. At the end of the night, Ian McGeechan and compere for the night, BBC Five Live's Ian Robertson, both commented that they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and very grateful that Glasgow Hawks had hosted the event.
Throughout the course of the afternoon and evening, Ian McGeechan spoke to the 1st XV squad from the High School and ran a coaching seminar for coaches from Hawks (senior and junior sections), GHK and Glasgow Accies and rugby coaches from each of the High School, Kelvinside Academy and Glasgow Academy.
The event has received excellent publicity in today's Scotsman and although Hawks receive the publicly for this, it has to be recognised that many people behind the scenes went out of their way to help. As such I would like to publicly thank the following people:
The High School of Glasgow
Colin Mair (Rector), Magnus Brown (Deputy Rector), Dave Barrett (Head of PE), Juliet Simpson (Bursar), Katie Keenan (Development Office), Ian Smith (Physics) and HSoG IT Dept
Colin and his staff had a Senior 1 parents evening on last night as well and hosting the event was extra work for all the school janitorial staff, so it was very much appreciated that they were able to accommodate the event in the stand in the first instance. All the HSoG staff did what they could to help make the event the success it was.
The Glasgow High School Club Ltd
Thanks very much to GHSCL Ground Convenor, Colin Wilson, for allowing the main pitch lights to go on. This helped create a bit of theatre and helped make the ground and stand look superb. Good photos on the Hawks website.
Colin Kerr was also once again on hand to help smooth over any logistical problems.
Imac Images
Iain MacIntosh once again helped out by taking a great set of photographs to capture the moment forever.
Allan James
Great food once again from Allan for whom nothing is ever a problem.
Glasgow Hawks Players
Special thanks to Sean Murray, Andy White, Craig Gossman, Ian Boyer, Duncan Weir and Marcus Taylor for doing a lot of donkey work helping set up the stand and carry tables and chairs about to ensure the stand looked first class for the event and also back in normal working order for the school this morning. Thanks very much indeed lads, this was a big help to Grant Talbot, Zena Melki and me.
Finally, many thanks to all the guests who came along. Without them the event would not have been possible.
Best regards,
Kenny
