WELCOME by KENNY BAILLIE
DUNDEE HIGH SCHOOL FP RFC, currently lying 4th in Scottish Hydro Premier 1, visit Old Anniesland this afternoon to play a Glasgow Hawks team still reeling from a very disappointing result last week at Currie. The coaches and the players have all been working very hard this week and I am sure that all Hawks supporters will see the Hawks team back playing at the standard we all know they are capable of.
We are playing a DUNDEE HS FP team who have had an excellent first half of the season and who may well be thinking of pushing for second spot in the league which would win them qualification for next season’s British & Irish Cup. With Ayr and Heriot’s kicking off their B&I Cup campaigns in a fortnight, we at Hawks will be watching closely how both clubs fare as cross-border competition for the Scottish clubs is something we have pushed for 13 years. As such, we too are eager to bring the likes of Munster and Nottingham to Old Anniesland and a victory today will help kick-start our campaign for a 2nd place finish.
Special mention to the Hawks 2nd XV for an excellent victory over Aberdeen away last Saturday which keeps the boys in a strong 2nd position in the Reserve League. The 2s are also playing DUNDEE this afternoon at New Anniesland, KO 2:00 PM.
A very warm welcome to all the DUNDEE players, President Gerry Tosh, and all DUNDEE supporters who have made the journey through from Tayside.
Lest we forget
Those of you who regularly look at our website (and there are a lot of you with www.glasgowhawks.com averaging 450-500 visits a day!) will have seen Hugh Barrow’s moving piece on former Anniesland rugby players who lost their lives in the First World War. With Remembrance Sunday tomorrow, please also take a minute to remember our good friend, Craig Hodgkinson, who passed away exactly three years ago today whilst playing rugby for the Royal Navy.
Craig is undoubtedly missed by everyone at Old Anniesland but today The Craig Hodgkinson Trust has raised enough money to acquire approximately 60 defibrillators which will be donated to various rugby clubs across Scotland. Craig’s dad, John, continues to look for donations so please contact the Hawks office of you would like more information. I know that Craig would be willing both Hawks and GHK 1st and 2nd XVs to victories
today.
