Welcome to all Hawks Junior Rugby players and supporters for our match against Melrose, the boys had a really good win in their last match against Stew Mel and will be looking to continue that good form with a win today. Please get behind the players from the first whistle and cheer them on to a Hawks victory.
Today the U13s and U14s are training at Old Anniesland andwe are hopeful that they will be joined by two professional players from Glasgow Warriors. I am sure that the boys will enjoy learning from a professional. The U15s are at home against Livingston in the last 16 of the Scottish Bowl while theU16s have no game today.
The Glasgow Hawks Youth and Community Programme is in the middle of a five-week tag rugby programme for P3 – P7 pupils. We are currently coaching in the St. Thomas Aquinas learning community and the schools receiving tag rugby coaching are: Corpus Christie, St. Brendan’s, St. Clare’s, St.Patrick’s and St. Paul’s. At the end of the five-week programme, all the children will take part in a tag rugby festival.
The programme is run in partnership with Andy Young theActive School Co-ordinator (ASC) for West Glasgow area. In January the tag rugby programme will move onto the Knightswood learning community, where Louise Keating (ASC) has organised six primary schools to receive a six-week block of tag rugby.
Today’s Hawks community profile is on Zena Melki. As many of you will know today will be Kenny Baillie’s last game as chief executive at Glasgow Hawks. Kenny will take up his new post as chief executive at Glasgow Warriors in the middle of December. Everyone associated with junior rugby at Hawks would like to take this opportunity to thank Kenny for the work that he has done at Glasgow Hawks and wish him every success with the Warriors.
For the last four months, Zena has been working at Hawks on our match day and non-match day events as well as general business development. With Kenny leaving, Zena will continue to provide support to Hawks as we develop the match day experience and attract new sponsors.
