The Scotsman reports
The 31-year-old stand-off signed a new two-year deal with Glasgow only last summer, when his future was shrouded in doubt after he was convicted of drink-driving at the end of a season in which he had slipped out of the international picture.
Though he has endured a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows in 47 Test matches with Scotland, since making his debut against Wales in 2004, Parks had this season reaffirmed his commitment to Glasgow and reminded all of his match-winning talent in the Magners League and Heineken Cup. He needs only five more points to become the first player in the league's history to reach 1,000 points.
However, with a plethora of stand-off talent bunching up within the SRU academy system and struggling to find game-time, pressure has grown on Glasgow and Edinburgh to find opportunities for the likes of Rory Hutton, Ruaridh Jackson, Alex Blair, Matthew Scott and Duncan Weir.
Sean Lineen, the Glasgow coach, is keen to promote youth and is expected to restore Jackson to the squad for the forthcoming Magners League derbies with Edinburgh, with one of the above-named also high on his target list for next season. Taking on a youngster as back-up to Jackson, who is still relatively new to the pro game, would be a gamble, and other options include Frazier Climo, the New Zealander at Ayr, who could become Scottish-qualified by 2012, and a veteran from elsewhere able to provide experience to Jackson.
Parks is one of the big-earners at Glasgow, however, and his decision to take what is rumoured to be a contract worth over £160,000 a year at Cardiff could help Lineen's efforts to work within a tightened budget for next year. Parks, meanwhile, will be determined to finish a career at Glasgow that has stretched over six years and more than 100 appearances by keeping the Warriors in contention for the Magners League play-offs, and use the stage to push himself back into international contention with Scotland.
