WARRIORS REST SCOTLAND SIX
Glasgow Warriors stand-off Ruaridh Jackson will pull on the Glasgow no.10 jersey for the first time this season for Friday night’s Heineken Cup clash with Newport Gwent Dragons at Firhill (15 January, kick-off 7.30pm).
The 21-year-old playmaker will be partnered at half-back by utility player, Colin Gregor, who has been named as captain on the occasion of his 90th appearance for the club.
Warriors head coach Sean Lineen said: “It’s fantastic to bring in players of the quality of Ruaridh Jackson and Rob Dewey as well as taking a look at Kelly Brown at 7.
“Budgie [Colin Gregor’s nickname] has done well in Europe. He’s a very skilful player and loves playing rugby for Glasgow. We’re also very fortunate to have someone of the calibre of Mark McMillan on the bench.”
In addition to the return of Jackson, Glasgow also welcome the return of Rob Dewey to the starting XV. Dewey and flanker James Eddie, who is named on the bench, were due to feature in last weekend’s Magners League fixture with Leinster prior to the game being cancelled.
This week, the Warriors have rested six of their international contingency (John Barclay, Chris Cusiter, Dougie Hall, Alastair Kellock, Moray Low and Graeme Morrison).
Speaking on his decision to play without such international experience this weekend, Lineen continued: “We’ve made a few changes because it’s a long season for our international players.
“We’re very serious about the Heineken Cup but we also have to look at our position in the Magners League.”
Despite such players being rested, the Warriors still have eight international caps in the starting XV, eleven in the full squad of 23.
