On behalf of Glasgow Hawks I would like to welcome all supporters and guests to Old Anniesland for today's Premier 1 League encounter with our friends Edinburgh Academicals. A special welcome goes to Accies President, Ralph Lutton, coach, Ian Barnes and their respective 'teams'.
Matches against Accies are both highly enjoyable and highly competitive with the last match at Raeburn Place being a high scoring and very entertaining spectacle. Hopefully another exciting match for the supporters is on the cards today
.
Last week's match against Boroughmuir was very satisfying in that we played well and have now shaken off the cobwebs which collected during the enforced lay off sue to the weather. The lads displayed great commitment for eighty minutes and showed that the training which they undertook during the lay-off kept their fitness and motivation levels high. This win enabled us to maintain our fifth place in Premier 1 and keeps us hard on the heels of Dundee HSFP in fourth place who have played one more game than ourselves. The 2nd XV also won at Meggatland and they have consolidated their second place in the Premier Reserve League. Today the seconds also play Edinburgh Accies over the fence at New Anniesland and they will be looking to avenge the defeat at Raeburn Place earlier in the season. It should be also be pointed out that seven of the 2nds pack last week were teenagers and this highlights the potential that we have coming through.
Our annual Supporter's Club event on January 16th was again a great success with over 100 supporters and guests enjoying the fare from Alan James and one of the funniest after dinner speakers in former sprinter, George McNeil. Ur next big event is the Annual Dinner Dance on May 15.. Watch out for details on the website and in future programmes.
Finally, I would like to say a big thanks to our sponsors today………
Enjoy today’s games.
Yours Aye,
Allan
