Rugby: County welcome Hawks
Feb 5 2010 by Donald Morton, Stirling Observer Friday
WEATHER permitting, Stirling County will be taking a breather from the rigours of league rugby tomorrow (Saturday) at Bridgehaugh.
Premiership One side Glasgow Hawks are due in Stirling for a Scottish Hydro Premier Cup match – the Scottish Cup of rugby.
Last Saturday, a frozen pitch at The Gytes put paid to Stirling’s game against Peebles. The match was re-arranged for Tuesday – but again the weather intervened.
The clubs will try for third time to play on Tuesday, February 9.
County coach Eddie Pollock (right) is hoping the weather will improve to get a game played.
Yesterday (Thursday) he said the pitch at Bridgehaugh was hard on top but OK underneath.
“Hopefully it’ll thaw in time for Saturday because it’s a game we’re looking forward to,” he added.
“It will be a chance for us to pit our wits against one of the top five sides in Scotland. Glasgow Hawks have a good record in the cup and they will want to continue this.”
Stirling should line up along regular lines – Pollock said everyone was fit and desperate to play some rugby.
The match at Bridgehaugh kicks off at 3pm.
