The Scotland 7s team will compete in the Bowl competition on day two of the IRB Sevens World Series in Wellington, New Zealand, having won one of their three pool fixtures this morning.
The Scots, seeded third in their section, lost to those ranked above them - Australia (24-7) and Fiji (36-5) - before disposing Papua New Guinea (34-5).
Following the final game of the day, Scotland 7s coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: "We were seeded third in our pool and we finished third so it's where we are.
"We were off the pace in our first two games, and when you're playing teams like Australia and Fiji, then you'll get punished and punished badly.
"However, we were expected to beat Papua New Guinea, and we beat them well.
"We need to improve on areas of our game. The game has moved on apace since the decision to admit sevens to the Olympics, so we need to work harder to ensure we hit the ground running in future tournaments."
In the opening game of their pool campaign, against Australia, Glasgow Warriors winger Chris Kinloch touched down to register the Scots' only try. Grant Anderson converted.
In their second match, a rampant Fiji side scored six tries to Scotland's one. Colin Shaw dotting down for the Scots.
In the final game, Scotland had enough possession to run in six tries. A Lee Jones double was followed by tries from Andrew Turnbull, David Tait, Colin Shaw and Chris Kinloch.
