Weir on target for Scotland 7s

The Scotland 7s team will face Argentina in the Bowl quarter-finals of the IRB Sevens World Series event in Las Vegas, USA.
Seeded third in Pool C, that is exactly where the Scots finished following defeats to Samoa (41-12) and Kenya (17-0) and victory over Chile (26-10) in the early hours of this morning (Sunday 14 January).
Following the final game of day one, Scotland 7s coach Stephen Gemmell said: “We made a disappointing start against Samoa where we lost some big physical battles.
“We played better in the second half and got ourselves back into the tournament against Kenya but we lacked some cutting edge with Andrew Turnbull unavailable due to a stomach bug.
“Against Chile, we played well, but having made a number of substitutions at half-time we lost our way a bit.
“We’re now looking forward to our Bowl quarter-final against Argentina where we’ll go out and give it our best shot.”
In their first game of the day, both Lee Jones and Craig Jackson touched down against Samoa with Jackson converting his own score.
Following a scoreless outing against Kenya, Scotland found their attacking form against fourth seeds Chile.
A Lee Jones double kicked off proceedings with Duncan Weir adding the extras on both occasions. David Tait then crossed just before the break with Weir again on target with the conversion.
Chris Kinloch (pictured) sealed the win for Scotland with a score in the second period.
Scotland will face Argentina in the Bowl quarter-finals at 7.44pm GMT today (11.44am local time).
