Livingston vs GHK Shield

A bright sunny afternoon cheered the touchline support up no end given the lack of rugby over the last 2 months.

Livingston started strongly and it was feared that the home side's experience would prove too much for the boys, however, a fine try by Borthwick off good lineout ball put us 5 point up in 10 minutes. A penalty response from the home side pulled it back to 3 - 5 but a try from good driving play secured a converted try mid way through the half.

We failed to clear to touch from a penalty allowing the home side another converted try. 17 - 5 and wasn't looking favourable until we stole turnover ball off a Livingston scrum with Messrs Aird & Borthwick combining to reduce the deficit by 7 points. Home side possesion in our 22 toward the end of the half allowed their bulky prop a score from a lineout, 22 - 12 to the home side at half time.

At the start of the second half the home side had slightly more possession and scored off a quick lineout. Shortly thereafter we lost our captain, Disco, but started fighting our way back. Our backs always looked dangerous with ball in hand, Danny showing good pace and determination to score at the end of the third quarter. 27 -19 could there be a comeback?

With less than 10 minutes to go Davy Whyte banged over a penalty to bring the score back to a respectable 27 - 22 ,however, pressure from the home side in our 22 led to a converted try and final score of 34 - 22.

Beaten by a better side on the day, but, despite too many unforced errors and penalties, this was an excellent display. A good test and bodes well prior to the resumption of our league fixtures next week.
