Glasgow and Max Evans failed to fire against a rampant Cardiff at Firhill
Cardiff inflicted a first defeat in seven Magners League games on Glasgow Warriors with a resounding victory.
Ruaridh Jackson missed three penalties in as many attempts for the hosts and the Blues made the league leaders pay.
The boot of Ben Blair kicked the visitors into a comfortable nine-point lead at the break at Firhill.
Gareth Cooper scored at the restart and Blair converted. Casey Laulala and Tom James tries rubbed salt into the wounds before Max Evans's late consolation.
League-leaders Glasgow have won three of their last four clashes with the Blues, whilst the Cardiff-based region's only previous victory on Glasgow home soil was 28-23 at Hughenden in September 2005.
With Warriors unbeaten in their last six Magners League encounters since September and having won their last four at Firhill in all competitions, they went into Friday's game with some momentum.
But they were weakened with Thom Evans out for the season following neck surgery, and Chris Cusiter, Dan Parks, captain Alastair Kellock, and back-row trio Kelly Brown, John Barclay and Johnnie Beattie all rested.
The Blues had won their last four matches in all competitions but slipped to back-to-back defeats in the Magners League.
The hosts looked lively in the opening minutes with Moray Low and James Eddie impressing but without putting Blues on the back foot.
And the Warriors looked to be missing the kicking prowess of Parks, with Jackson missing three penalties in as many attempts of a scoreless first half for the hosts.
Cardiff took the lead through Blair's penalty in 12 minutes and added a second six minutes later, as the visitors turned territory into points when they ventured into Glasgow's 22.
And Jackson, with an easier chance from about 30 metres out, missed his and Glasgow's third penalty of the first half.
Cardiff looked increasingly dangerous as the half wore on against the sluggish Scots and Blair made it three penalties in as many attempts after Hefin O'Hare had received a yellow card for offside - despite angry appeals from Warriors.
Casey Laulala almost forced an opening on a number of occasions, but could not break free to score the opening try of the game.
Glasgow, kicking deep from their own third and failing to give Max Evans and DTH van der Merwe enough ball to hurt the Welsh, went in at half-time nine points down.
Cardiff increased their lead with a great opportunist try soon after the restart.
Glasgow were punished for poor cover on the blindside after a ruck 10 metres out and Gareth Cooper surged over to score at the line.
The accurate boot of Blair added the conversion as the visitors pulled further ahead.
Warriors relied on their defence to keep Cardiff at bay, as the visitors looked comfortable with their 16-point cushion.
Laulala scored Blues' second try of the night from a Glasgow scrum after they somehow got the ball back after first contact.
James then ran through four Glasgow tackles with ease for another try as Cardiff gave the hosts a lesson in ball retention and razor-sharp finishing.
Blair capped a memorable night with his third conversion to take his personal tally to 15 points on the night.
Cardiff sought a bonus point that a fourth try would bring but the Warriors defence were not breached again.
And Evans scored a late try for the Warriors, with Colin Gregor converting, but it was too little too late.
