Glasgow Hawks Considering Groundshare Offer From Rivals West Of Scotland
Feb 25 2010 By Matthew Leslie
GLAGSOW HAWKS boss Peter Wright says he may have to take up local rivals West of Scotland's offer of a temporary groundshare if the bad weather continues to disrupt their season.
Wright's men have not had a home fixture since the back end of November with snow and frost wreaking havoc to their fixture schedule and have only played a handful of away games.
Last Saturday's clash against Currie fell victim to frost and, given the share the land with Glasgow High School, the race is on to complete their fixture card with the pupils soon requiring the turf for their cricket programme.
However, West boss John Beattie has offered his club's Burnbrae venue as an alternative 'home ground' if they need it.
Wright said: "The way things are going, we might have to take up John's kind offer but only as a last resort.
"We assure supporters that we will do all we can to squeeze in all our home games at Old Anniesland land but if the weather beats us, then we may have to drive up the road to West.
"In all honestly, the SRU really have to address the issue of switching to a summer calendar as it is becoming farcical and is frustrating players and fans alike.
"We're getting summer rugby by default at this rate and that is actually no bad thing as both players and spectators will probable enjoy their rugby even more."
