On Spirit and Improvement
‘If we all did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves’.
Thomas Edison (1847 –1931) Inventor of the phonograph.
Men, this dramaturge urges you to allow your mind, with the experience of seasons past, to play over the numerous trials that have been set before us and which has seen our collective grow together and led to consummate victory on the fields of our great game, Rugby Union. Men, I urge you to make sure that with what strength we have that what has been gained to date with so much endeavor and skill shall be built upon for the future glory of our great club. It is our duty to be able to look back when Father Time demands that we take-a-knee and know that this group left the club in a further advanced position than when we started. Whether Officer, senior player still learning at the front of the lineout or a young scrummager we all have a prodigious and equal part to play.
Men, this team stands with the pinnacle in sight. It is a solemn moment for many brave souls. At 2:55pm tomorrow when you look around you, you must feel not only the sense of duty done but also you must acknowledge anxiety lest we fall below the standards we have set. Our opportunity has arrived, clear for all to see. To reject it or allow it to pass will bring upon us all the long reproaches of our future years in the bar. It is necessary that the determination of ball carrying, persistence to the breakdown, and the consistency of correct decision making shall breach to the fore. We must, and I know we shall, prove ourselves equal to this most severe requirement.
Dare, I say; time may be short. Do not let us take a tact of allowing events to simply drift along. This may render our actions too late and therefore obsolete. If the fraternal association that I have laid out, with all its camaraderie and achievement to which we all have contributed, is to be proclaimed, let us make sure we push on and transform what we have to numeral points.
Padre Dunlop is tripping the light fantastic and Assistant Adjutant General Shambilton is in ambulation.
The Prince is back and looking like Haskell.

Genuine best wishes and a thick slice of Dundee cake to all Anniesland teams this weekend.
Yours as always, running towards the gunfire in front row union, ball in hand and making ground, with a Samoan sidestep, handoff and correct presentation. Never beaten, its best Mizuno boot forward and onto the second phase. With thoughts of Ralgex jerseys and opportunities with armpit hair. Crouch. Touch. Pause. Engage. Heart in the fire. Head in the Icebox. Always look to the left in a photograph, mon frere. Take one for the columbarium-fanciers. Thames Rowing Club. Like the leader of a buffalo stampede. Never tippex your face. It’s on. More electrical tape needed. Three times round.
Disco [Cpt.]
Supporting Note: Major Ken Cowan led one of the best last week.
