Marr vs GHK Match Report

A bright sunny day and even warm at Fullarton Park - big change from last week. The touchline blazers were filled with good cheer and hope for a good away result.

In the first half not much between the 2 teams, our backs showed promise to move the ball and looked the more dangerous back division in attack. Both sides were penalised for infringements throughout the half and we were fortunate that the home stand off was initially off form, or the score difference at half time could have been up to 12 points more.

We had a few chances but ended up spilling the ball at crucial times in attack after well worked phases. 2 tries went begging and Marr were fortunate to be leading for the first time 9 - 6 at half time, thanks to penalties converted by both sides.

The second half started with a couple of good attacks but the balance of the team seemed affected by injury to our courageous captain and Andy Fleming on the right wing. Marr were able to capitalise on some mistakes but also on opportunist tries, one from a cross field penalty, the other their second row, managing to escape the desperate chase by Davy Whyte from ball stolen at the breakdown. Home side penalties converted added the rest of the points and a final score of 29 - 6.

Lessons to be learned as we looked far less of a unit (particularly in the forwards) than in previous campaigns. A high penalty count could also have disrupted the flow of the game however Marr on home territory looked more eager for the victory.
